- The SIG has a new home on the web (July 15, 2026) The site now covers the SIG's programming and resources alongside the member directory.
- Recap: Doctoral Student Networking Event (May 18, 2026) Doctoral students working across data science, AI, and social work met for 90 minutes of structured networking, co-hosted with the GCSW Harnessing Technology for Social Good initiative.
- SIG launches a searchable member directory (March 28, 2026) The directory lists members by social work topic and AI/DS method. Members join through a two-minute form, and entries appear automatically.
- Workshop at SSWR 2026: Implementing LLMs for social work research (January 15, 2026) A hands-on SSWR workshop on large language models: foundations, local deployment of open-source models, and practical considerations.
- Workshop at SSWR 2025: Analyzing social media data with NLP (January 16, 2025) Nari Yoo, Cheng Ren, and Gaurav Sinha led a hands-on SSWR workshop on sentiment analysis and topic modeling for social work research.
